Anna Kline is from the Memphis area - Hernando, Mississippi to be exact (it's all relative) - and has been out among the masses singing folk music since age 16.
At 19, she produced and independently released a Celtic music album; and, from 1995 to 2001 she was a self-promoting singer/songwriter performing the folk circuit through Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Her face appeared in The Memphis Flyer, DeSoto Times, The Commercial Appeal and DeSoto Appeal and she was a special guest on the WEVL FM 90 show Strands of the Celtic Knot.
Although folk music was what she did well, her real love was the Memphis Music of Stax, Sun and Hi Records, Mississippi Delta and Hill Country Blues. She attended the University of Memphis studying Music Business, Mass Media and Film and kept playing around Memphis in the meantime. In the meantime the colorful strains of indie rock and power pop caught her ear.
Upon moving to Jackson, Mississippi in 2004, she started working for classic soul label Malaco Records in music licensing, steeping herself in the state's rich blues and R&B heritage. The Memphis-to-Jackson soul has influenced her singing and playing ever since.
Her clear, rich voice stops the chatter of noisy regulars in coffeehouse crowds & bars.
The Grits and Soul Band, has a rootsy, old timey sound and is comprised of Scott Anderson on guitar, John Looney on mandolin and Travis Pinkston on bass, formed in February 2011. They are ready to blow the door off its hinges.
