I take a walk outside every day unless it's raining. It must be my inner Mississippian because I have this urgency to enjoy the beautiful weather while I can (because at home, it never lasts long). That being said, we've had a couple of warm days lately; and by warm, I mean, it's been in the lower 70s. Every evening, around the time the sun begins to set, we have a few visitors that wander through our yard.
There are at least 8-10 wild turkeys that make the rounds through the neighborhood each day. They are HUGE. The closest I'd seen was the end result packaged for Thanksgiving dinner.

It's been a long time since I posted because this past year I haven't done nearly the amount of travel for work as I have in the past; and I've also been extremely busy juggling work and music.
I wanted to let you know that I am relocating to another part of the South, so I will say goodbye to Mississippi for the time being. I grew up here and have loved most every minute Grits-N-Soulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11724992141678681967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8727871156980532203.post-46495850671779182662011-06-17T10:34:00.011-05:002011-06-17T10:41:07.589-05:00Grits & Soul on Fox 40 and Friends in JacksonHey friends -
Hope you are doing well and having a great Friday.
This week, me and The Grits & Soul Band were Fox 40 and Friends featured artist. We went into the studio, played a couple of tunes for them and had a blast!
What a ride we've had lately. Doors of opportunity just keep opening for us and it's a great feeling when all the hard work pays off! Last Thursday I wrote a song about the Mississippi River flooding, not realizing that a mere week later, it would be on the news.
My sweet friend, Ginger, who is the proprietor of grand-central-station-of-all-things-Southern posted about us (thanks!) There were also lots of tweets and emails and messages. So, thanks everyone - we are over the moon!!

Well, good. And, yes, I know.
First things first. There's a lot to catch up on and so little time to make that happen.
I have to tell you about my trip to Cleveland and Clarksdale, my whirlwind week in Austin for South by Southwest (and trying the best cake pops in the free world), the time I hung out with Ginger from Deep Fried Kudzu AND last but Grits-N-Soulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11724992141678681967noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8727871156980532203.post-54401255488580810292011-02-03T19:31:00.002-06:002011-02-03T19:39:09.547-06:00Let Them Eat CakeThis afternoon, my coworkers and I wandered up (aka road up the elevator) to a Mississippi Arts Commission staff reception, which we know is a sure thing: good company, good food and great art.
The MAC not only supports talented artists, but they have on staff many talented artists who create textiles, mosaic designs, paintings, music and more.

The most important “part” of the “party” equation is tasty snacks. You know they talk about you otherwise, right? Yes, well, they do.

There are so many ways to surprise your favorite baconphile this Holiday Season! It's safe to say a gift like these will count for major brownie points and make up for most any transgression you may have committed over this past year. Remember me?
Yes, I know, it's probably a hazy memory but, hopefully it's not all lost!
Suffice it to say I've been burning the candle at both ends working on my film project, playing gigs and just general work and being worn out. I thought about making a trailer for the film but how would I make a trailer for a 9 minute film without giving everything away? While you are probably sleeping in past the hour of 7 a.m. this morning, me and my friend Andi, will soon be on the road to the town of Osyka, Mississippi (pronounced O-sie-ka).
Where's that, you ask?
If you are traveling down I-55, you'll find it's just off Exit 1, right before you hit the Louisiana line. A good friend mentioned a taqueria right across the street from Bolsa's where she loves getting the barbacoa tacos.
We ordered two barbacoa and one al pastor. We found a spot to sit on the bench on the side of the building to enjoy the "appetizer" part of our meal.
I'd never had barbacoa before - and if you haven't either, Grits-N-Soulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11724992141678681967noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8727871156980532203.post-50062362078721683992010-09-24T09:00:00.155-05:002010-09-24T09:00:00.299-05:00Dallas Eats, Part 1 W wanted to take me to a well-known section of the city called Oak Cliff. Oak Cliff is a world unto itself and as W told me, the neighborhood has tried to secede from the city of Dallas (unsuccessfully) numerous times! We visited the Bishop Arts District, ate lunch and did some window shopping. We wandered around window shopping because much of the district is dark on Mondays.
